The Engineering Mission

Build the machines and systems that could change how homes are made.

B3LL is looking for exceptional engineers and technical founders who want to work on one of the least industrialized products in the economy — and on the robotics, manufacturing, structures, and energy systems needed to change that.

Why This Problem

A product everyone needs, still built by hand.

Most of the cost of a home is decided by how it is produced: how much work happens in the field, how many trades must coordinate, how much is redesigned for every site, and how little is measured. Those are engineering problems. Our mission is to make quality housing radically more affordable by reinventing how homes are designed, manufactured, assembled, powered, maintained, and connected to transportation.

The work sits where mechanical, structural, manufacturing, robotics, and energy engineering meet. It requires designing the building and the machine together, proving every assumption with prototypes and data, and holding a high bar for safety and quality in a field that has rarely been engineered this way.

B3LL is at the concept and engineering-definition stage. We are not advertising open positions. We want to meet exceptional people early — potential founding engineers, technical cofounders, advisors, and research collaborators — and build the team around the problems that matter most.

Technical Challenges

Hard problems worth solving.

The five challenges behind the mission, stated as the engineering questions they raise. None has a settled answer yet.

  1. 01

    Reduce unnecessary field labor.

Partition the building into work that can be done in controlled production and work that must happen on site, then drive the site share down.Robotics · Manufacturing · Industrial engineering

  2. 02

    Design buildings for robotic assembly.

Develop connection systems, datums, and tolerance strategies that let machines place and join components reliably in real field conditions.Structural · Mechanical · Robotics

  3. 03

Lower total manufacturing and installation costs.

Model and minimize total delivered cost across equipment, takt, yield, transport, installation, and finishing — not component cost alone.Manufacturing · Industrial engineering · Intelligence

  4. 04

    Integrate energy and autonomous mobility.

Engineer generation, storage, charging, and vehicle infrastructure into the product and site from the start, and keep it adaptable as technology changes.Energy systems · Electrical · Mobility

  5. 05

Prove the economics through measurable results.

Define the test articles, instrumentation, and metrics that would show — or refute — that the system lowers labor, cost, and schedule at equal or better quality.Test engineering · Simulation · Quality

Disciplines

Where your expertise meets the problem.

We are especially interested in people who have shipped physical systems: machines, production lines, structures, or energy hardware that had to work outside a lab.

01

Robotics & Automation

Robotics engineers, automation specialists, controls and perception engineers.

  • Factory cells for framing, fastening, finishing, and inspection
  • Site machines that lift, align, and connect large components
  • Perception and metrology for as-built tolerance
02

Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering

Manufacturing and industrial engineers, production planners, industrial designers.

  • Line design, takt, and throughput for housing components
  • Design for manufacture and assembly
  • Quality systems and cost modeling
03

Structural & Mechanical Engineering

Structural engineers, mechanical engineers, building-systems and envelope specialists.

  • Standardized structural systems and connection design
  • Transport and lifting loads, tolerances, and durability
  • Integrated mechanical and building-services assemblies
04

Energy & Mobility Systems

Electrical and energy-systems engineers, EV infrastructure and mobility specialists.

  • Pre-integrated generation, storage, and charging
  • Lifecycle energy modeling and optimization
  • Vehicle storage, charging, and dispatch infrastructure

Simulation, software, and data engineers who want to connect design, production, and operations are welcome too — as are technical founders who see a part of this problem they want to own.

What we value
Engineering judgment over credentials
  • Evidence of building real things that work
  • First-principles reasoning about cost and physics
  • Comfort with ambiguity at an early stage
  • Candor about what is and is not yet known
What to expect
A conversation, not a hiring funnel
  • Every introduction is read by a person
  • A first conversation about the problem, not a résumé screen
  • Roles and terms defined as the company forms
  • No promise of a position where none exists yet
